Attaching waistline elastic to a lined skirt, using overlocking techniques

q 

Quarter mark the elastic and garment waistline.

q  Pin elastic to inside of the skirt, aligned with waist edge.

q  Keeping pins out of the way of the blade, and working with elastic uppermost, place the garment edge under the presser foot so that it touches the blade.

q  Lower the foot and take a stitch by turning the flywheel manually. (Check the instruction manual, as some older models turn back not forward!)

q  Now place a hand to the front and back of the overlocker, stretching the fabric apart to fit the elastic smoothly. Take care not to pull too aggressively! Photo 1

q  Working in short bursts, attach the elastic, removing pins as you work.

q  Press the garment over the elastic so that the lining falls to the inside.
